Stenna Clyde
Just got back from a three weeks stint on the Stenna Clyde drilling rig on the Timor Sea out of Darwin. I spent Christmas and New Year there. What an experience. Both holidays were spent reading, eating and sleeping...very quiet whilst waiting for my work to begin. It was meant to be a 5 day job but it got delayed with drilling and most of the time was spent waiting around and doing some prelim processing of the samples. I ate so much food that I put on 3 kilos whilst I was there!!!!!! I really thought that my overalls was strunked from the constant hot water washing by the laundryman. Well that's my excuse anyway and I am sticking with it. Hahahahah.
These are some dinos/spores that we get to see under the microscope when we get out to do these rig jobs. Weird wonderful creatures that nature created. These are millions of years old and this is the cuticle of the original organisms left when they die. Palynologist use this to accurate date the age of the rock type whilst they are drilling for gas and oil.
There are thousands and thousands of these different dino/spores/pollens and all have names to them. Only the specialist like the palynologists can really identify them. I only know a handful myself....still on my "P" plates!!!!!
